REPORTS TO: Cafeteria Manager
SUMMARY: The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks by methods that maintain high nutrient levels and that are sanitary. This position oversees the proper storing and handling of food, and thoroughly sanitizes the kitchen and all its equipment. The Cook ensures compliance with public-health regulations and child nutrition food guidelines.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform work efficiently and, to the best of his/her ability, the duties assigned by the manager to them regarding safety measures, preparation of food, serving of food, proper sanitization of all areas in the kitchen, daily record keeping, and any other requested duties made the manager as time permits.
- Attend scheduled trainings to meet the minimum 6 hours of annual training required by the professional standards of USDA.
- Report to manager immediately any symptoms that could have a potential risk of foodborne illness.
- Follow work procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment for all employees.
- Maintain pleasant working relations with fellow employees by showing consideration for others, displaying patience, respect, self-control, and other desirable character traits.
- Uphold excellent customer service with students, staff and parents while maintaining desirable relations between school and community.
- Follow all SOCSD policies.
- Report regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notify manager of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the cafeteria manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass a current criminal records background check and a current child abuse registry
- Basic math skills are required to perform duties through the workday.
- Must possess the ability to read and comprehend multi-step directions pertaining to standardized recipes and specific work processes.
- Ability to perform moderate physical work, efficiently, with continuous standing.
- Ability and willingness to follow instructions, both written and oral.
- Must have reliable transportation to work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Child Nutrition experience.
- Willingness to work in any situation.
