REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
SUMMARY: The finance office supervisor oversees the accounting systems and collection of financial information for the district. This position monitors the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensures financial information has been recorded accurately in accordance with established policies and standards.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the CFO in the management of the financial affairs of the district.
- Oversees the finance department operations.
- Supervises the day to day activities of the finance department support staff.
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating all finance department support staff.
- Assists with budget amendments.
- Reconciles district bank statements monthly.
- Prepares and makes bank deposits of district monies received.
- Assists with bank transfers to appropriate bank accounts as needed and approved.
- Assists with receipt of district monies received.
- Prepares quarterly tax returns and 1099s.
- Inputs new vendor information.
- Reviews and verifies for accuracy purchase orders and invoices for payment.
- Reviews and verifies credit card statements for accuracy and payment.
- Assists with fiscal year end close out.
- Serves as a relief in time of need when finance office support staff is out on extended leave.
- Provides revenue/expense reports monthly or as requested for bookkeepers from various departments.
- Assists CFO with monthly data entry.
- Assists school bookkeepers and department heads with accounting questions in the absence of the CFO.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CFO
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS or BA degree in Business Administration or Accounting from an accredited college of business, school of accountancy, or comparable, accredited institution of higher learning.
- Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
- Excellent computer skills including demonstrated efficient use of spreadsheets, word processing, financial accounting, etc.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Direct experience in a business office of a public school system or post-secondary institution and/or experience with a state or federal governmental auditing or accounting entity.
- Awareness of the principles of program budgeting.
- Experience with school district financial accounting software.
- Knowledge of state and federal purchasing guidelines.
